Animal Welfare Approved Seeks Winter/Spring 2010 Marketing Intern

The Animal Welfare Approved program is seeking interns for Winter/Spring 2010. The Animal Welfare Approved program and food label promote the well-being of animals and the sustainability of humane family farms. We unite conscientious consumers with farmers who raise their animals with compassion.

Marketing Intern Tasks –

·Search engine optimization

·Research and increase links from relevant websites to AWA

·Update social networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

Consumer and Farmer Outreach:

·Assist with mailings to prospective farmers, consumers, chefs, extension agents, etc.

·Research and attend conferences when necessary to assist with tabling, giving out materials, and informing attendees about Animal Welfare Approved’s services

·Maintain contact lists from conferences and events

·Contact AWA farmers to update vendor listings on website

·Research prospective farmers


·Research press contacts, and send press releases

·Implement photograph filing system

·Write content for Animal Welfare Approved blog

·Write farmer profiles for website

·Monitor news about program farms through Google Alerts

Other marketing and public relations tasks as assigned.


Ideal candidate is a graduate student, although undergraduate students may be considered. Intern should have an interest in farm animal welfare, sustainable agriculture, or food policy as well as communications and public relations.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.
